The custom of hanging decorations for doll festival began in the late Edo period. It is said to be a unique traditional decoration of Izu, the roots of which is not very clear. However, Meiji-era-born grandmas also saw the decorations in their childhood. So its history is likely to be way more than a hundred years old.
